F1 MINI GOLDENDOODLE Consists of a Purebred Female Golden Retriever bred to a Purebred Mini male poodle. This of course happens by Artificial Insemination, and is considered the purest of the breed, being exactly half Golden Retriever and half Mini Poodle. As first generation hybrids, these dogs have the added health benefits associated to Hybrid Vigor. This is a phenomenon in animal breeding referring to the fact that the first cross between two unrelated purebred lines is healthier and grows better than either parent line. They are expected to weigh between 20-40 lbs at maturity. Coat Maintenance: Moderate to high care Coat Description: Coat grows to a natural body length of 3-5 inches which requires combing and occasional grooming. Many choose to have the fur cut back once every few months to keep the fur shorter and easier to maintain. Coats are usually wavy or curly, with a rare shorter hair coat. Shedding: Very little to none. Allergy Friendliness: Usually successful in families with mild to moderate allergies. Mini Goldendoodle vs. StandardF1 STANDARD GOLDENDOODLE The F1 standard is much like the F1 mini. The only difference is the size. An F1 standard goldendoodle can be expected to weigh anywhere from 45-65+lbs. |
F1B Is a first generation goldendoodle bred to a poodle. At this point, the dogs are 75% poodle and 25% retriever. Even though they are a higher percentage of poodle, they generally exhibit the same wonderful temperament as an F1 cross. Being 75% poodle, they are one of the most hypoallergenic of the goldendoodle crosses and also shed the little to none. Coats are usually wavy or curly and shedding is light to non-shed. Coat Maintenance: Moderate to high care Allergy Friendliness: Usually successful in families with mild to severe allergies. F1BB
This generation is created by crossing an F1b Goldendoodle back to a poodle. They are known for their consistency, most having curly coats that shed very little to none. Being the most allergy friendly of any Goldendoodle generation, they are normally successful in families with high allergy concerns. At this point, the mix is 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Golden Retriever. Coat Maintenance: Moderate to high care Coat Description: Coat grows to a natural body length of 3-5 inches which requires combing and occasional grooming. Many choose to have the fur cut back once every few months to keep the fur shorter and easier to maintain. F2
These are the most unpredictable, as at this point you are breeding two doodles, which waters down the health and vigor tremendously, as well as the coat predictability. You can't be sure which parent lines will come out and you can end up with some resembling the retriever parent more so than a doodle. They also lose their allergy friendly status at this level as well. Coat Maintenance: Moderate to high care, can also be low if the dog is retriever like. Allergy friendliness: Not recommended for families with allergies. MULTIGENERATIONAL
The third generation Goldendoodle (F3) is produced by crossing the F1B or F2 with another F1B or F2 Goldendoodle. When breeding F3 Goldendoodles, a high number of puppies in the litter will be more prone to shedding. Some are very retriever'ish with flat, sporty coats, not the soft, fluffy coats our doodles are known for. When choosing a pet for their low shed and hypo allergenic qualities, the lighter fluffier coats are what you should aim for. Coat qualities vary from retriever like to doodle like. Coat Maintenance: Moderate to high care, can also be low if the dog is retriever like. Allergy friendliness: Not recommended for families with allergies. |
