What is a Golden Retriever? The Golden Retriever is a large handsome bundle of energy. They are known for their rich golden color and that gold can range from a soft sun gold to a deep copper gold. Golden Retrievers are extremely intelligent. They have been used for hunting, assisting the handicapped, leading the blind and of course being a loyal and devout family dog. These are lovable, well-mannered, intelligent dogs with a great charm. They are easily trained, and always patient and gentle with children. Charming, devoted and self-assured, they are a popular family dog. Energetic and loving, Golden Retrievers enjoy pleasing their masters, so obedience training can be very rewarding. They excel in competitions. Friendly with everyone, including other dogs, the Golden Retriever has very little, if any, guarding instincts. While unlikely to attack, Goldens make good watchdogs, loudly signaling a stranger's approach. They are an overall wonderful family pet.
How Big do Golden Retrievers Get and How Much Can They Weigh? Male dogs are approximately 22-24 in. and females 20-22 in. at the shoulders. A healthy Golden weighs between 60 and 75 pounds, with some of the very smallest and largest ‘outliers’ ranging as low as 55 pounds right up to 90 pounds (not including overweight and obese dogs.)
Do Golden Retrievers Shed a Lot of Hair? Yes. They shed hair all year round in small quantities but twice per year at the start of spring and autumn they shed in what can only be described as ‘massive amounts’ when their undercoats change over for the changing seasons.
Should I get a male or female? Males tend to be larger than the females, but other than that there isn't much difference when choosing between the two. It really comes down to personal preference.
How much are your puppies? Our golden retriever puppies are $700 and will come with all their shots, deworming, initial vet checks, dew claws removed, and they will be microchipped. They also come with what we like to call a "puppy care pack". This care pack includes a sample of the food we feed, a toy they are familiar with, a blanket with their littermate's and mother's scent on it, and an informational booklet we have put together. To reserve your place on the waiting list, we require a $200 deposit, payable by cash, check, or paypal. The remaining balance of $500 is due at the time of pickup. This can be paid by check, cash, or paypal. Arrangements for paypal need to be made ahead of time.
What is the difference between an American Golden Retriever and an English Cream? The most obvious difference between American and English Golden Retrievers is the color of their coats. The AKC does not recognize light colored retrievers as opposed to the KC not recognizing mahogany and red colored retrievers. The most serious difference between the two are the health issues. American Golden Retrievers are 70% likely to develop cancer compared to The English Golden Retrievers 23%. Also, the life expectancy of an American Golden ranges from 810 compared to the English Goldens which range from 11-13. As far as appearance, the American Retriever is taller, longer, and more athletically built. The English Retriever is shorter, stockier, has a blocky head, and is just a thicker made dog.
How does the puppy picking process work? The order we receive deposits is the order people get to choose. So if you send your deposit first, you get first choice of whichever gender you have specified. Individual puppies are “chosen” between 5 to 6 weeks of age when personalities and physical traits become more apparent. This is also the time when we allow farm visits (selectively). If you are not able to choose in person, we are more than happy to send pictures/videos and have even used Skype before! Distance is not an issue for us.
Do you have a health guarantee? Yes. Please refer to the "Health Guarantee" Tab.
