What is a Goldendoodle? Goldendoodles are a wonderful result of the combination of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle (miniature or standard). They appeared in the United States and Australia in the 1990’s. Since that time, the breed has been growing in popularity. Like all breeds, they originate out of a desire to combine certain traits that are apparent in the parental breeds. Goldendoodles are being bred for the intelligence, obedience, agility and creativity of both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Golden Retrievers are particularly well known for their beauty, loyalty, social nature and gentle temperament. Golden Retrievers are the fourth most popular dog in the United States according to registries. Poodles have the second highest intelligence rating according to Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, a 1994 publication. Golden Retrievers have the fourth highest intelligence rating. Goldendoodles are also being bred for hair characteristics present in Poodles. The Poodles hair follicle growth period is much longer than most breeds. This means that Poodles shed less frequently but require more regular grooming and clipping than most breeds. Dander that is produced is often caught by the curly nature of the hair. Regular grooming reduces dander. Therefor some individuals with allergies to pet dander and hair react much less to Poodles and also Goldendoodles. Both Poodles and Golden Retrievers are well known for their social nature. This is a prominent characteristic of the Goldendoodle as well. They are happiest with their human family and enjoy the companionship of other pets. When all the characteristics of the Golden Retriever and Poodle are combined, the result is a Goldendoodle. They are extremely beautiful, intelligent, eager to please, obedient, social, loyal, gentle, and low to non-shedding. They are excellent working dogs and amazing family pets. They are truly a remarkable breed!
What is a "Teddybear Goldendoodle"?? A Teddy Bear Goldendoodle is the result of the crossing of an English Cream Golden Retriever and a poodle. English Retrievers are known for their mild temperament, stocky build, square face and beautiful, long, wavy coat. These traits are passed on to the puppies, giving the appearance of a big fluffy "Teddy Bear".
What more can you tell me about their traits? They have Superior intelligence which makes them easy to train and they are not usually considered barkers. They are very loyal dogs who have an intuitive-sensitive nature. Golden doodles are athletic dogs who love to run, play, and love water sports. They have a easy going personality and playfulness and fit into just about any family environment. They are known to be quick learners and being “model” students in their puppy/dog classes. Golden doodles love to please.
What are their coats like? Are they hard to take care of? Most first generation Goldendoodles shed lightly. F1 Goldendoodles are compatible for most families with MILD allergies. Most F1 Goldendoodles will have plush, straight to loose wavy coat and anything in between. Occasionally, a F1 breeding will produce a more curly coat. The physical appearance of the Goldendoodle runs anywhere from a shaggy-looking retriever to a curl-relaxed poodle, but usually it falls somewhere in-between. Due to the fact that this is a mix breed, we cannot guarantee things like color, size, and shedding. Golden doodles are considered a very low shedding dog. Their coats take a while to fully mature. The process can make their coats seem quit different at various ages. Your F1 doodle may look much like a golden retriever puppy at first and the coat may become wild, crazy, and wispy like teddy bear fur. It may also appear quite uneven especially around 5-6 months old. It takes patience but it will fill in and sometimes it takes up till a year old. As a rule of thumb, the curlier the coat, the less likely it is to shed.
How much are your puppies? Our mini goldendoodle puppies are $1,500 and will come with all their shots, deworming, initial vet checks, dew claws removed, and they will be microchipped. This care pack includes a sample of the food we feed, a toy they are familiar with, a blanket with their littermate's and mother's scent on it, and an informational booklet we have put together. To reserve your place on the waiting list, we require a $500 deposit, payable by cash, check, or paypal. The remaining balance of $1,000 is due at the time of pickup. This can be paid by check, cash, or paypal. Arrangements for paypal need to be made ahead of time.
Do you breed your dogs back to back or skip seasons? We make our decision about when to breed one of our girls on a case by case basis, but we do believe that back to back breeding is a good thing in most cases. Most, if not all, reproductive vets say that it is better to breed back to back and retire your girls early than to skip seasons and continue to breed girls when they are older. A dog goes through the exact same hormonal changes and their uterus wears out with every cycle whether she is bred or not. This is why many dogs will experience what is commonly called “false pregnancies”. Older un-spayed dogs become more and more at risk for a common but dangerous infection of the uterus call Pyometra the more heats they have, whether bred or not. Our decision to breed back to back is not one that was made quickly. We have talked to other experienced breeders and gotten information on what their reproductive vets are saying. Breeding back to back is the way God designed dogs to reproduce and the way dogs breed naturally.
Should I get a male or female? Males tend to be larger than the females, but other than that there isn't much difference when choosing between the two. It really comes down to personal preference.
How does the puppy picking process work? The order we receive deposits is the order people get to choose. So if you send your deposit first, you get first choice of whichever gender you have specified. Individual puppies are “chosen” between 5 to 6 weeks of age when personalities and physical traits become more apparent. This is also the time when we allow farm visits (selectively). If you are not able to choose in person, we are more than happy to send pictures/videos and have even used Skype before! Distance is not an issue for us.
Do you have a health guarantee? Yes. Please refer to the "Health Guarantee" Tab.
