All of our puppies are sold as PETS ONLY with a spay/neuter contract. All puppies must be spayed/neutered by one year of age and documentation must be sent to us varifying the procedure. In purchasing a puppy from us, you agree to enter a spay/neuter contract agreement. This means that you agree to spay/neuter the pup before one year (12 months) of age.
It is very important for breeding dogs to have a doucmented history of many generations of their ancestor's health, temperament, and confirmation. We as breeders hand select which offspring we will use to breed based on the breed standards and temeraments. Breeding stock must be of appropriate age/weight, health, temperament and promote the same in their future offspring. In order to guaruntee the success of the breed, it is crucial that only the best adult dogs be bred, resulting in exceptional puppies that will cary on the breed standards.
We have put many years of work in to the history, health and temperaments of our dogs and offspring. It is important for breeders to protect the integrity of their dogs/offspring. We do not promote "back yard breeding". This is where someone just buys a dog and breeds it to "have a litter" or to obtain financial gain. Any breeder will tell you that many, many years of hard work are placed in breeding dogs, and that it is not for everyone. Therefore, most reputable breeders limit the registration of offspring to ensure the dogs are well cared for and that the breeding is done by the breeders and not the back yard people wanting to become a breeder. We do this so we can keep our lines clean and free of health issues, and to ensure that our offspring are well cared for. If you are interested in breeding rights, for whatever the reason, please contact us with your information and reasons for wanting breeding rights, and we will discuss the reasons and options, and get back to you.
When to spay/neuter: Generally, this should be done when the puppy has reached at least 5-6 months for a female and 6-8 months for a male. The older the dog, the better it will be able to withstand the anesthesia. Your vet will be able to offer input about what he recommends. It must be done by one year of age though in order to stay in compliance with our spay/neuter contract. Why spay/neuter: Fixing your dog prevents pregnancy and the birth of unwanted puppies. It avoids the need to restrain the dog during estrus. It keeps both sexes from roaming away from your house in search of a mate. It reduces the tendency of male dogs to urinate in the house. Additionally, it avoids reproductive-related problems such as tumors, pyrometra, false pregnancy, prostate infections, and reduces the risk of developing reproductive related cancers.

Spay/Neuter Agreement
Permanent ownership of this dog is contingent upon your compliance with this Addendum. Proof of the spay/neuter must be received by THE BREEDER within fourteen (14) days after the surgery. In the event that the dog's health does not allow this agreement to be honored, RIVERBEND KENNELS must be provided with a statement from your veterinarian that this dog is not yet in physical or emotional condition for surgery. Based upon the veterinarian's evaluation of this dog the (purchaser) will contact the veterinarian and establish the earliest date that the procedure can be performed. (PURCHASER) will notify the BREEDER of this amendment in writing, at which time all other conditions of this agreement will apply and be enforced.
This is the responsibility of the PURCHASER, not the veterinarian, to ensure that RIVERBEND KENNELS has received verification that the surgery has been performed. A copy of the medical record as well as the receipt is necessary verification along with the veterinarian’s phone number to follow up about procedure. Failure to comply with this agreement by the date below, unless otherwise agreed to in writing, will be considered a breach of the Contract, and PURCHASER will transport this dog back to RIVERBEND KENNELS and will not be entitled to a refund. PURCHASER will also be fined $1,000, the difference between pet price and breeding price.
In the case of the puppy's demise on or before the above listed date, a written statement from your veterinarian must be sent to RIVERBEND KENNELS, stating that the puppy has indeed passed away, and the cause of death. This is an unfortunate step but necessary.
In a perfect world, we would like to have each puppy we place to stay in their original purchasing home. Things do happen, and should you need to transfer ownership before spay/neuter has been performed, you agree to contact RIVERBEND KENNELS, in writing, phone or email and let us know BEFORE the puppy has been placed into a new home. We require a right of first return or reclamation, that the puppy be returned to us if you cannot keep him or her. You are not free to give the puppy away to another family member or anyone without receiving permission from us first.
If you decide to go ahead and give the puppy to someone without contacting RIVERBED KENNELS, this contract is still your responsibility to enforce in the puppy's new home. Should we not receive conformation of the puppy's spaying or neutering by the above listed age, as the original purchaser, you will then be liable for the dog’s full purchase breeding value, which is $1,000 more than the pet price.
By my signature below, I agree to have this dog spayed/neutered by the age of ONE YEAR (12 MONTHS) and I understand that this spay/neuter agreement is an agreement that this dog will not produce a litter of puppies either as purposely bred or by accidental breeding. I also agree that should puppy not be SPAYED/NUETERED by one year of age that I will return said puppy back to the seller/breeder with no refund or face $1,000 fine.
